7 | the expiration of the terms of the members of the |
8 | commission as of June 30, 1996, and the staggering of the |
9 | initial terms of the members appointed to replace them; |
10 | providing an effective date. |

12 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

14 | Section 1. Section 947.01, Florida Statutes, is amended to |
15 | read: |
16 | 947.01 Parole Commission; creation; number of members.--A |
17 | Parole Commission is created to consist of three six members who |
18 | are residents of the state. Effective July 1, 1996, the |
19 | membership of the commission shall be three members. |
20 | Section 2. Subsection (1) of section 947.02, Florida |
21 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
22 | 947.02 Parole Commission; members, appointment.-- |
23 | (1) Except as provided in s. 947.021, the members of the |
24 | Parole Commission shall be appointed by the Governor and Cabinet |
25 | from a list of eligible applicants submitted by a parole |
26 | qualifications committee. The appointments of members of the |
27 | commission shall be certified to the Senate by the Governor and |
28 | Cabinet for confirmation, and the membership of the commission |
29 | shall at all times reflect the diversity of the population of |
30 | this state include representation from minority persons as |
31 | defined in s. 288.703. |
32 | Section 3. Section 947.022, Florida Statutes, is repealed. |
33 | Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007. |
