2 An act relating to periods of wartime service
3 for veterans; amending s. 1.01, F.S.;
4 redefining the term "veteran" for purposes of
5 construing the Florida Statutes to include a
6 person who served in the active military,
7 naval, or air service in Operation Enduring
8 Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom; providing
9 an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Paragraphs (h) and (i) are added to
14 subsection (14) of section 1.01, Florida Statutes, to read:
15 1.01 Definitions.--In construing these statutes and
16 each and every word, phrase, or part hereof, where the context
17 will permit:
18 (14) The term "veteran" means a person who served in
19 the active military, naval, or air service and who was
20 discharged or released therefrom under honorable conditions
21 only or who later received an upgraded discharge under
22 honorable conditions, notwithstanding any action by the United
23 States Department of Veterans Affairs on individuals
24 discharged or released with other than honorable discharges.
25 To receive benefits as a wartime veteran, a veteran must have
26 served in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge
27 has been authorized or a veteran must have served during one
28 of the following periods of wartime service:
29 (h) Operation Enduring Freedom: October 7, 2001, and
30 ending on the date thereafter prescribed by presidential
31 proclamation or by law.

2 ending on the date thereafter prescribed by presidential
3 proclamation or by law.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
