3 | Congress of the United States, requesting the United |
4 | States Government to expeditiously amend federal |
5 | immigration policies to grant "Credible Fear Interviews" |
6 | and Temporary Protected Status to Haitians, requesting the |
7 | United States Government to move expeditiously in |
8 | implementing such changes, and urging Congress to amend |
9 | current federal immigration laws to grant Temporary |
10 | Protective Status to Haitians on the same terms as other |
11 | persons fleeing their home county because of political, |
12 | religious, and other recognized persecution. |

14 | WHEREAS, the United States of America is known worldwide as |
15 | the land of the free and the home of the brave, and |
16 | WHEREAS, thousands of individuals flee civil unrest and |
17 | political persecution in their home countries in search of basic |
18 | freedoms, and |
19 | WHEREAS, individuals come to the United States of America |
20 | searching for a safe haven from their home countries where they |
21 | fear persecution, and |
22 | WHEREAS, under the current federal policy, political |
23 | refugees who reach the United States are granted "Credible Fear |
24 | Interviews," and |
25 | WHEREAS, the current federal immigration laws provide |
26 | Temporary Protective Status for some persons, and |
27 | WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security is also |
28 | authorized to grant such status under certain circumstances, |
29 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

31 | Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

33 | That the United States Government is requested to |
34 | expeditiously amend current federal immigration policies, by |
35 | change of law if necessary, to allow Haitians fleeing their home |
36 | country because of political, religious, and other recognized |
37 | persecution and who have reached the United States soil to be |
38 | granted "Credible Fear Interviews" and to be granted Temporary |
39 | Protective Status. |
40 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Government is |
41 | requested to act expeditiously to grant Temporary Protective |
42 | Status to Haitians in our country who have fled their home |
43 | country because of political, religious, and other recognized |
44 | persecution. |
45 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Congress of the United |
46 | States is urged to amend federal immigration laws to grant |
47 | Temporary Protective Status to Haitians, on the same terms as |
48 | other persons fleeing their home country because of political, |
49 | religious, and other recognized persecution. |
50 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be |
51 | dispatched to the President of the United States, to the |
52 | President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the |
53 | United States House of Representatives, and to each member of |
54 | the Florida delegation to the United States Congress. |
