11  The Committee on Judiciary (Geller) recommended the following
12  amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 1, line 14, through page 2, line 2, delete
16  those lines
17  
18  and insert:  
19         454.18  Practice of law; self-representation Officers
20  not allowed to practice.--No sheriff or clerk of any court, or
21  deputy thereof, shall practice in this state, nor shall any
22  person not of good moral character, or who has been convicted
23  of an infamous crime be entitled to practice. A But no person
24  may not shall be denied the right to practice law on account
25  of gender sex, race, or color. And Any person, whether an
26  attorney or not, or whether within the exceptions mentioned
27  above or not, may conduct his or her own cause in any court of
28  this state, or before any public board, committee, or officer,
29  subject to the lawful rules and discipline of such court,
30  board, committee, or officer. The provisions of this section
31  restricting the practice of law by a sheriff or clerk, or

 1  deputy thereof, shall not apply in a case where such person is
 2  representing the office or agency in the course of duties as
 3  an attorney.

 8         On page 1, lines 2-7, delete those lines
 9  
10  and insert:
11         An act relating to the practice of law;
12         amending s. 454.18, F.S.; deleting provisions
13         prohibiting a sheriff, deputy sheriff, clerk,
14         or deputy clerk from practicing law; deleting
15         exception provision to prohibition on a
16         sheriff, deputy sheriff, clerk, or deputy clerk
17         from practicing law; providing an effective
