1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to carbon monoxide safety;
3 amending s. 509.211, F.S.; requiring public
4 lodging establishments to be equipped with
5 carbon monoxide sensor devices; providing an
6 effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Subsection (5) is added to section 509.211,
11 Florida Statutes, to read:
12 509.211 Safety regulations.--
13 (5) Each enclosure that has boilers or other machinery
14 generating carbon monoxide in a public lodging establishment
15 shall be equipped with one or more carbon monoxide sensor
16 devices that bear the label of a nationally recognized testing
17 laboratory and have been tested and listed as complying with
18 the most recent Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., Standard
19 2034, or its equivalent, unless it is determined that no
20 potential carbon monoxide hazard exists for a unit. Such
21 devices shall be integrated with the public lodging
22 establishment's fire detection system. Any such installation
23 or determination shall be made in accordance with rules
24 adopted by the division.
25 Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2007.

COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
2 Senate Bill 1840

4 The committee substitute (CS) amends s.509.211, F.S., to limit
the carbon monoxide detector requirement to every enclosure
5 with boilers or other machinery generating carbon monoxide in
a public lodging establishment. It requires that the device
6 be integrated with the public lodging establishment's fire
detection system.
