13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
14         On page 26, between lines 12 and 13,
15  
16  insert:  
17         Section 7.  Section 1004.647, Florida Statutes, is
18  created to read:
19         1004.647  Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management
20  Research Center.--The Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk
21  Management Research Center is created at the Florida State
22  University, College of Business, Department of Risk
23  Management. The purpose of the center is to promote and
24  disseminate research on issues related to hurricane
25  catastrophe loss and to assist in identifying and developing
26  education and research grant funding opportunities among
27  higher education institutions in this state and the private
28  sector. The purpose of activities of the center is to support
29  the state's ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover
30  from catastrophic storms. The center shall:
31         (1)  Coordinate and disseminate applied research

 1  efforts that are expected to have an immediate impact on
 2  policy and practices related to windstorm mitigation.
 3         (2)  Coordinate and disseminate information related to
 4  catastrophic storm risk management, including, but not limited
 5  to, research and information that would benefit businesses,
 6  consumers, and public policy makers. Areas of interest may
 7  include storm forecasting, loss modeling, building
 8  construction and mitigation, and risk management strategies.
 9  Through its efforts, the center shall facilitate Florida's
10  preparedness for and responsiveness to catastrophic storms.
11         (3)  Create and promote studies that enhance the
12  educational options available to risk management and insurance
13  students.
14         (4)  Publish and disseminate findings.
15         (5)  Organize and sponsor conferences, symposia, and
16  workshops to educate consumers and policymakers.
