  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Paige Railey on winning

  3         the 2006 International Sailing Federation Rolex

  4         World Sailor of the Year Award.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the Clearwater Yacht Club has a proud history

  7  dating back to 1911 and is one of the original 13 member clubs

  8  of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, and

  9         WHEREAS, 19-year-old Paige Railey has been sailing with

10  the Clearwater Yacht Club since she was an 8-year-old green

11  fleet sailor, learning to race in Optimist dinghies, and

12         WHEREAS, ever since the Laser Radial was selected as

13  the women's one-person dinghy equipment for the 2008 Olympic

14  Sailing Competition, Paige has shown amazing success by

15  winning various national and international titles such as the

16  2005 Laser Radial World Championship title in Brazil and five

17  more top spots at International Sailing Federation Graded

18  events in 2006, and

19         WHEREAS, the International Sailing Federation World

20  Sailor of the Year Awards, launched in 1994, are recognized as

21  the pinnacle award a sailor can receive in recognition of his

22  or her outstanding achievements by the world of sailing, and

23         WHEREAS, during presentation of the International

24  Sailing Federation World Sailor of the Year Awards the

25  outstanding achievements of sailors around the world are

26  honored by the world of sailing, and

27         WHEREAS, two awards, one for a female sailor or crew

28  and one for a male sailor or crew, are presented each year

29  during the International Sailing Federation Annual Conference

30  in November, and

 1         WHEREAS, on November 7th, 2006, Paige was selected as

 2  the Female World Sailor of the Year for her outstanding

 3  sailing accomplishments during the 12 months ending August

 4  2nd, 2006, and

 5         WHEREAS, Paige is the youngest recipient ever to win

 6  the Rolex Sailor of the World Award, and

 7         WHEREAS, Paige is the first United States female to

 8  ever win the Rolex Sailor of the World Award, and

 9         WHEREAS, Paige's goal is to win a gold medal at the

10  Beijing Olympics in 2008, NOW, THEREFORE,

11  

12  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

13  

14         That Paige Railey is congratulated and commended on

15  winning the 2006 International Sailing Federation Rolex World

16  Sailor of the Year Award.

17         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

18  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Paige

19  Railey as a token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
