  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to campaign contributions;

  3         amending s. 106.08, F.S.; prohibiting

  4         legislators, statewide officeholders, and

  5         certain candidates from soliciting or accepting

  6         contributions to or on behalf of a political

  7         committee, committee of continuous existence,

  8         electioneering communications organization, or

  9         any organization described in s. 527 of the

10         Internal Revenue Code from controlling or

11         coordinating or consulting with any such

12         committee or organization; providing

13         exceptions; providing penalties; providing an

14         effective date.

16  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

18         Section 1.  Paragraph (c) is added to subsection (7) of

19  section 106.08, Florida Statutes, to read:

20         106.08  Contributions; limitations on.--

21         (7)

22         (c)  A member of the Legislature, a statewide

23  officeholder, or a candidate for legislative or statewide

24  office may not, directly or indirectly, solicit, cause to be

25  solicited, or accept any contribution to or on behalf of a

26  political committee, committee of continuous existence,

27  electioneering communications organization, or, except for a

28  political party or campaign of the candidate, any organization

29  described under s. 527 of the Internal Revenue Code, and may

30  not control or coordinate or consult regarding the expenditure

31  or raising of funds for any such committee or organization.

 1  Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, any

 2  person who knowingly and willfully violates any provision of

 3  this paragraph commits a felony of the third degree,

 4  punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s.

 5  775.084.

 6         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
