  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to daylight saving time;

  3         exempting the State of Florida and its

  4         political subdivisions from federal law that

  5         establishes a uniform time for an advance to

  6         daylight saving time; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9         WHEREAS, the Uniform Time Act of 1966, 15 U.S.C. s.

10  260a, mandates a uniform and coordinated system of reckoning

11  time throughout the United States, including the observance of

12  daylight saving time during the summer months from 2 a.m. on

13  the last Sunday of April until 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of

14  October of each year, and

15         WHEREAS, states may exempt themselves from daylight

16  saving time only by legislative act and by opting to observe

17  standard time throughout the state, NOW, THEREFORE,

18  

19  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

20  

21         Section 1.  Under 15 U.S.C. 260a, this state exempts

22  itself and all of its political subdivisions from observation

23  of advanced time, also known as daylight saving time, between

24  2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in April and 2:00 a.m. on the

25  last Sunday in October in each calendar year, and the entire

26  state and all of its political subdivisions shall observe the

27  standard time that is otherwise applicable during that time

28  period.

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

30  law.
