1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to federal funding for
3 after-school programs; requiring the Office of
4 Program Policy Analysis and Government
5 Accountability to perform a study of how to
6 maximize federal funding for after-school
7 programs; requiring a report to the Legislature
8 by a specified date; providing an effective
9 date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. The Office of Program Policy Analysis and
14 Government Accountability shall perform a study of how to
15 maximize federal funding of after-school programs. As part of
16 determining how to maximize federal funding, OPPAGA shall
17 examine the current methods of obtaining funding from the
18 federal government, including grants, and shall focus on other
19 additional ways to obtain federal funding. If the report finds
20 deficiencies in how the state obtains federal funding for
21 after-school programs, the report shall provide options for
22 correcting these deficiencies and shall include the projected
23 cost of implementing those options. In conducting the study,
24 the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government
25 Accountability shall consult with the Department of Education
26 and the Department of Children and Family Services in addition
27 to other interested entities that may offer experiences and
28 perspectives unique to this area of research. The report shall
29 be submitted to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of
30 the House of Representatives by January 1, 2008.

1 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
2 law.
