  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to building code

  3         administrators; amending s. 468.609, F.S.;

  4         authorizing plans examiners and building code

  5         inspectors to be employed under certain

  6         circumstances pending notification that their

  7         applications for provisional certification have

  8         been approved or disapproved; providing an

  9         effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12  

13         Section 1.  Paragraph (d) of subsection (7) of section

14  468.609, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

15         468.609  Administration of this part; standards for

16  certification; additional categories of certification.--

18         (d)  A newly employed or hired person who has submitted

19  an application for a provisional certificate may perform the

20  duties of a plans examiner or building code inspector until

21  the department notifies the person that his or her application

22  for a provisional certification  has been approved or denied

23  if for 90 days if a provisional certificate application has

24  been submitted, provided such person is under the direct

25  supervision of a certified building code administrator who

26  holds a standard certification and who has found such person

27  qualified for a provisional certificate. However, direct

28  supervision and the determination of qualifications under this

29  paragraph may be provided by a building code administrator who

30  holds a limited or provisional certificate in any county with

 1  a population of less than 75,000 and in any municipality

 2  located within such a county.

 3         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

 6                          SENATE SUMMARY

 7    Allows a plans examiner or building code inspector to be
      employed pending notification by the Department of
 8    Business and Professional Regulation concerning
      provisional certificate application approval or
 9    disapproval.
