18 Section 1. Subsections (1), (2), and (3) of section
19 633.382, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
20 633.382 Firefighters; supplemental compensation.--
21 (1) DEFINITIONS.--As used in this section, the term:
22 (a) "Employing agency" means any municipality or any
23 county, the state, or any political subdivision of the state,
24 including authorities and special districts employing
25 firefighters.
26 (b) "Firefighter" means any person who meets the
27 definition of the term "firefighter" in s. 633.30(1) who is
28 certified in compliance with s. 633.35 and who is employed
29 solely within the fire department of the employing agency or
30 is employed by the division or any person who meets the
31 definition of the term "firesafety inspector" in s.

1 633.021(10) and who is employed solely within the fire
2 department of the employing agency or is employed by the
3 division.
4 (2) QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUPPLEMENTAL COMPENSATION.--
5 (a) In addition to the compensation now paid by an
6 employing agency to any firefighter, every firefighter shall
7 be paid supplemental compensation by the employing agency when
8 such firefighter has complied with one of the following
9 criteria:
10 1. Any firefighter who receives an associate degree
11 from an accredited a college or university, which degree is
12 applicable to fire department duties, as outlined in policy
13 guidelines of the division, shall be additionally compensated
14 as outlined in paragraph (3)(a).
15 2. Any firefighter, regardless of whether or not she
16 or he earned an associate degree earlier, who receives from an
17 accredited college or university a bachelor's degree, which
18 bachelor's degree is applicable to fire department duties, as
19 outlined in policy guidelines of the division, shall receive
20 compensation as outlined in paragraph (3)(b).
21 3. Any firefighter, regardless of whether or not she
22 or he earned a bachelor's degree earlier, who receives from an
23 accredited college or university a master's degree, which
24 master's degree is applicable to fire department duties, as
25 outlined in policy guidelines of the division, shall receive
26 compensation as outlined in paragraph (3)(c).
27 (b) Whenever any question arises as to the eligibility
28 of any firefighter to receive supplemental compensation as
29 provided in this section, the question, together with all
30 facts relating thereto, shall be submitted to the division for
31 determination, and the decision of the division with regard to

1 determination of eligibility shall be final, subject to the
2 provisions of chapter 120.
3 (3) SUPPLEMENTAL COMPENSATION.--Supplemental
4 compensation shall be determined as follows:
5 (a) One hundred and twenty-five Fifty dollars shall be
6 paid monthly to each firefighter who qualifies under the
7 provisions of subparagraph (2)(a)1.
8 (b) Two One hundred and ten dollars shall be paid
9 monthly to each firefighter who qualifies under the provisions
10 of subparagraph (2)(a)2.
11 (c) Three hundred dollars shall be paid monthly to
12 each firefighter who qualifies under subparagraph (2)(a)3.
13 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

31 supplemental compensation for a firefighter who

2 amount of supplemental compensation for a
