2 An act relating to the Myakka River; amending
3 s. 258.501, F.S.; requiring the Myakka River
4 Management Coordinating Council to prepare a
5 report; providing report requirements;
6 requiring public hearings; requiring the
7 council to submit the report to the Governor
8 and the Legislature; providing an effective
9 date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Paragraphs (c) and (d) of subsection (7) of
14 section 258.501, Florida Statutes, are redesignated as
15 paragraphs (d) and (e), respectively, and a new paragraph (c)
16 is added to that subsection, to read:
17 258.501 Myakka River; wild and scenic segment.--
18 (7) MANAGEMENT COORDINATING COUNCIL.--
19 (c) The Myakka River Management Coordinating Council
20 shall prepare a report concerning the potential expansion of
21 the Florida Wild and Scenic River designation to include the
22 entire Myakka River. At a minimum, the report shall include a
23 description of the extent of the Myakka River area that may be
24 covered under the expanded designation and any recommendations
25 or concerns of affected parties or other interests. During the
26 development of the report, at least one public hearing shall
27 be held in each of the affected areas of Manatee, Sarasota,
28 and Charlotte counties. The report shall be submitted to the
29 Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the
30 House of Representatives no later than January 1, 2008.
31 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

4 The committee substitute clarifies that the report prepared by
the Myakka River Management Coordinating Council is to be
5 limited to the issue of the potential expansion of the Florida
Wild and Scenic River designation to include the entire Myakka
6 River, and to require that at least one public hearing be held
in Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties during
7 development of the report.
