  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the accomplishments

  3         and contributions of Florida Atlantic

  4         University.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University was created by the

  7  Florida Legislature in 1961 as the state's fifth public

  8  university, and

  9         WHEREAS, since opening its doors to undergraduate and

10  graduate students, Florida Atlantic University has

11  consistently distinguished itself as a center of outstanding

12  teaching, research, and public service, and

13         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is currently

14  serving more than 26,000 students on seven campuses

15  strategically located along 150 miles of Florida's

16  southeastern coastline, and

17         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is developing

18  rapidly as a center of medical education and biomedical

19  research through partnerships with the University of Miami

20  Miller School of Medicine, Boca Raton Community Hospital, the

21  Scripps Research Institute, the Torrey Pines Institute for

22  Molecular Studies, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and

23  Research Institute, and other outstanding scientific

24  organizations, and

25         WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is a major engine

26  of economic growth in Southeast Florida, generating more than

27  $1.15 billion annually in economic activity, NOW, THEREFORE,

29  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 1         That the Senate congratulates and commends Florida

 2  Atlantic University for the many important contributions it

 3  has made and continues to make to higher education in the

 4  State of Florida.

 5         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

 6  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Florida

 7  Atlantic University as a token of the sentiments of the

 8  Florida Senate.
