1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to payment of homestead
3 property taxes for active duty deployed
4 military personnel; providing legislative
5 intent; authorizing deployed active duty
6 military personnel to apply to the Department
7 of Revenue for payment of certain ad valorem
8 taxes for a certain time period; providing
9 duties of property appraisers and the
10 department; providing an appropriation;
11 providing an effective date.

13 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

15 Section 1. (1) It is the intent of the Legislature
16 that the state pay the ad valorem property taxes on homestead
17 property of any active duty deployed military personnel for up
18 to 1 year or prorated for the days of active deployment in a
19 given year.
20 (2) Any active duty deployed military personnel may
21 apply to the Department of Revenue to have the ad valorem
22 taxes imposed upon his or her homestead property paid by the
23 state for up to 1 year or for the prorated days of active
24 employment during 1 year.
25 (3) The property appraiser of each county shall submit
26 a request to the Department of Revenue for each homestead
27 property for which the owner submits appropriate documentation
28 showing his or her impending deployment or actual deployment.
29 Within 30 days after receiving such request, the Department of
30 Revenue shall remit to the county tax collector the amount of

1 the tax bill for the period of the estimated deployment,
2 rounded to the nearest complete month, up to 1 year.
3 Section 2. The sum of $1 million is appropriated from
4 the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Revenue for
5 purposes of paying ad valorem taxes as provided by this act.
6 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
7 law.
