1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing April 17-23, 2007, as
3 "General Aviation Week" in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, the aviation industry is one of the
6 cornerstones of Florida's economy, with 20 commercial service
7 airports and 108 general aviation airports that are open to
8 the public and more than 600 private-use airports, and
9 WHEREAS, Florida's airports provide nearly $90 billion
10 annually in economic activity, and its aviation industry
11 supports more than one million jobs that generate $26 billion
12 in annual payroll, and
13 WHEREAS, Florida has the largest flight-training
14 industry in the United States, and
15 WHEREAS, more than 85 percent of all aircraft
16 operations in Florida are flown by general aviation aircraft,
17 and
18 WHEREAS, each year, Florida's general aviation aircraft
19 bring 9 million business and leisure visitors to the state,
20 and
21 WHEREAS, the state's general aviation airports house
22 more than 14,000 aircraft, comprising 6 percent of the
23 nation's general aviation fleet, and
24 WHEREAS, Florida's general aviation airports
25 accommodate more than 7 million takeoffs and landings yearly,
26 ranking Florida second in the nation in this area, and
27 WHEREAS, without general aviation airports, Florida's
28 busy commercial service airports would be overwhelmed with air
29 traffic, making air travel to and around the state nearly
30 impossible, and

1 WHEREAS, Florida is the host of the nation's second
2 largest general aviation convention, Sun'n Fun Fly-In
3 Convention, in Lakeland for 1 week each year, attracting
4 thousands of aircraft and hundreds of thousands of aviation
5 enthusiasts to the state for the event, NOW, THEREFORE,
6
7 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
8
9 That April 17-23, 2007, is recognized as "General
10 Aviation Week" in Florida.
