  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to license plates; amending ss.

  3         320.08056 and 320.08058, F.S.; creating an

  4         Out-of-State Collegiate license plate;

  5         providing for the distribution of annual use

  6         fees received from the sale of such plates;

  7         providing an effective date.

  8  

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (iii) is added to subsection (4)

12  of section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, to read:

13         320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

14         (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall

15  be collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

16         (iii)  Out-of-State Collegiate license plate, $25.

17         Section 2.  Subsection (61) is added to section

18  320.08058, Florida Statutes, to read:

19         320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

20         (61)  OUT-OF-STATE COLLEGIATE LICENSE PLATES.--

21         (a)  The department shall develop out-of-state

22  collegiate license plates as provided in this section for

23  state and independent universities located outside this state.

24  Any out-of-state collegiate license plate created or

25  established must comply with the requirements of s. 320.08053.

26  The license plates must bear the colors and design approved by

27  the department as appropriate for each university. The word

28  "Florida" must be stamped across the bottom of the plate in

29  small letters.

30         (b)  The annual use fees shall be distributed to the

31  Department of Education and deposited in the State Student

 1  Financial Assistance Trust Fund, created by s. 1010.73. Such

 2  fees in the trust fund shall be allocated to scholarships for

 3  students who are residents of this state and have committed to

 4  teach in public schools in this state, with priority given to

 5  students who commit to teach in a subject area or in a

 6  geographical area in which a critical shortage of teachers

 7  exists.

 8         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

11                          SENATE SUMMARY

12    Authorizes the creation of collegiate license plates for
      out-of-state universities and provides for the
13    distribution and use of the annual use fees for such
      plates.
