  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to license plates; amending ss.

  3         320.08056 and 320.08058, F.S.; creating a Gold

  4         Star license plate; providing for the

  5         distribution of annual use fees received from

  6         the sale of such plates; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (iii) is added to subsection (4)

12  of section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, to read:

13         320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

14         (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall

15  be collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

16         (iii)  Gold Star, $35.

17         Section 2.  Subsection (61) is added to section

18  320.08058, Florida Statutes, to read:

19         320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

20         (61)  GOLD STAR LICENSE PLATES.--

21         (a)  The department shall develop a Gold Star license

22  plate as provided in this section. The word "Florida" must

23  appear at the top of the plate, and the words "Honoring Those

24  Who Have Fallen" must appear at the bottom of the plate. A

25  plate may be issued only to a surviving spouse, parent,

26  sibling, or child of a member of the United States Armed

27  Forces who was killed while on active duty.

28         (b)  The annual use fees shall be distributed to the

29  Timothy James Seamans Foundation and used to establish and

30  maintain monuments at high schools in this state in honor of

31  the memory of former students who joined any branch of the

 1  United States Armed Forces immediately after leaving high

 2  school and who were killed while on active duty. A monument

 3  shall be established and maintained at the former high school

 4  of each such student.

 5         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
