  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to insurance coverage for

  3         motorcycle riders; amending s. 316.211, F.S.;

  4         increasing the amount of required medical

  5         insurance coverage for motorcycle riders who do

  6         not wear protective headgear; providing an

  7         effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (3) of section

12  316.211, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

13         316.211  Equipment for motorcycle and moped riders.--

14         (3)

15         (b)  Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person over 21

16  years of age may operate or ride upon a motorcycle without

17  wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her

18  head if such person is covered by an insurance policy

19  providing for at least $50,000 $10,000 in medical benefits for

20  injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or

21  riding on a motorcycle.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

26    Increases from $10,000 to $50,000 the amount of required
      medical insurance coverage for motorcycle riders who do
27    not wear protective headgear.
