12  recommended the following amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 2, lines 3-31, delete those lines
16  
17  and insert:  
18         (16)  "Physical education" means the development or
19  maintenance of skills related to strength, agility,
20  flexibility, movement, and stamina, including dance; the
21  development of knowledge and skills regarding teamwork and
22  fair play; the development of knowledge and skills regarding
23  nutrition and physical fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle;
24  and the development of positive attitudes regarding sound
25  nutrition and physical activity as a component of personal
26  well-being.
27         Section 3.  Subsection (3) of section 1003.455, Florida
28  Statutes, is amended to read:
29         1003.455  Physical education; assessment.--
30         (3)  Each district school board shall provide 150
31  minutes of physical education each week for students in

Students enrolled in such 2 instruction shall be reported through the periodic student 3 membership surveys, and records of such enrollment shall be 4 audited pursuant to s. 1010.305. Each district school board is 5 encouraged to provide 150 minutes of physical education each 6 week for students in kindergarten through grade 5 and 225 7 minutes of physical education each week for students in grades 8 6 through 8. 9 Section 4. During the 2007-2008 school year, the State 10 Board of Education shall review and revise the Sunshine State 11 Standards related to physical education skills to reflect 12 state-of-the-art philosophy and practice. The revised 13 standards shall emphasize the role of physical education in 14 promoting the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that prepare 15 students to make healthy lifelong nutrition and physical 16 fitness choices. 17 Section 5.
