  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the excellence and the

  3         accomplishments of the New World School of the

  4         Arts.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the New World School of the Arts was created

  7  in 1986 by the Florida Legislature as a "Florida Center of

  8  Excellence" in the visual and performing arts and functions as

  9  an educational partner of Miami-Dade County Public Schools,

10  Miami Dade College, and the University of Florida, and

11         WHEREAS, the New World School of the Arts provides a

12  comprehensive program of artistic training and academic

13  development in preparation for careers in dance, music,

14  theater, musical theater, and the visual arts, and offers the

15  high school diploma, the Associate of Arts Degree, and the

16  Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, and

17         WHEREAS, the New World School of the Arts counts among

18  its alumni winners of the Tony Award, the Latin Grammy Award,

19  the Presidential Scholars in the Arts competition, the

20  National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts competition,

21  the National Scholastic Arts Awards Portfolio, the National

22  Gold Key Award, the Carbonell Award, and numerous other

23  artistic and academic honors, and

24         WHEREAS, graduates of the New World School of the Arts

25  perform on Broadway and in prestigious dance companies and

26  orchestras, and exhibit their works internationally in museums

27  and galleries, and

28         WHEREAS, the achievements of this outstanding

29  conservatory have placed the New World School of the Arts in

30  the highest echelons of arts institutions and made the school

 1  a shining star for all of South Florida, the entire state, and

 2  the nation, NOW, THEREFORE,

 3  

 4  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 5  

 6         That the Senate commends the faculty and students of

 7  the New World School of the Arts for their numerous and

 8  remarkable achievements and congratulates the Miami-Dade

 9  County Public Schools, Miami Dade College, and the University

10  of Florida on their vigorous sponsorship of 20 years of

11  artistic excellence and educational opportunity.
