  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the United States Air

  3         Force on its 60th Anniversary.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, this year marks the year-long celebration of

  6  the 60th Anniversary of the U.S. Air Force as an independent

  7  branch of the nation's military and is the centennial of the

  8  first contract for military aircraft to the Wright Brothers in

  9  1907, and

10         WHEREAS, the theme of this year's celebration is

11  "Heritage to Horizons: Commemorating 60 Years of Air and Space

12  Power" as this country honors the valor, courage, and

13  commitment of generations of airmen and airwomen who have

14  risked their lives in the defense of freedom, and

15         WHEREAS, America's air force is the largest and most

16  technologically advanced air force in the world, with more

17  than 9,000 aircraft in service and more than 350,000 personnel

18  on active duty, and

19         WHEREAS, the stated mission of the U.S. Air Force today

20  is "to deliver sovereign options for the defense of the United

21  States of America and its global interests - to fly and fight

22  in Air, Space, and Cyberspace," and

23         WHEREAS, Florida is proud to be home to five U.S. Air

24  Force Bases and three Air Stations - Eglin AFB, Tyndall AFB,

25  Hurlburt Field, MacDill AFB, Patrick AFB, Avon Park Air

26  Station, Cape Canaveral Air Station, and Duke Field, and

27         WHEREAS, this anniversary year is an opportunity for

28  all Americans to honor the many patriotic men and women who

29  have served in the United States Air Force and its predecessor

30  organizations and especially to recognize the more than 54,000

31  airmen and airwomen who have paid the ultimate price for their

 1  country - giving their lives for freedom, justice, and the

 2  American way of life, NOW, THEREFORE,

 3  

 4  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 5  

 6         That the Senate pauses in its deliberations to

 7  commemorate the personal sacrifice of the members of the

 8  United States Air Force and to celebrate its 60th year of

 9  commitment and resolve in protecting this country's freedom.
