  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing Miami-Dade County and

  3         celebrating Miami-Dade County Days at the

  4         Florida Capitol, April 17 and 18, 2007.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation

  7  takes great pride in recognizing initiatives that serve to

  8  enrich and enhance the standard, as well as the quality, of

  9  life for those who reside in Miami-Dade County, and

10         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world finance

11  with more than 150 financial institutions and foreign agencies

12  within its boundaries, and it has grown to become a beacon

13  signifying success for numerous visitors and residents, and

14         WHEREAS, the film and television industry has made

15  Miami-Dade County one of the largest production centers in the

16  nation, and

17         WHEREAS, 18 years ago Miami-Dade County consisted of 27

18  municipalities, whereas today it has grown to 35 cities and

19  has truly stood the tests of time to become a major

20  metropolis, and

21         WHEREAS, the numbers of international and domestic

22  visitors to Miami-Dade County have risen dramatically, which

23  in turn has enabled the Miami International Airport to double

24  its cargo tonnage, making Miami-Dade County a thriving

25  enterprise, and

26         WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is experiencing a cultural

27  boom in world-class entertainment and cultural activities,

28  which is evidenced by the more than 1,000 nonprofit

29  organizations offering dance, theater, music, and visual arts,

30  as well as festivals, special events, and a state-of-the-art

31  performing arts center, and

 1         WHEREAS, now in its 18th year, Miami-Dade County Days

 2  at the Florida Capitol provides an opportunity to recognize

 3  Miami-Dade County and to promote its economic and social

 4  agenda, while at the same time celebrating the taste of South

 5  Florida's diverse culture with the serving of Paella and the

 6  now famous Mambo Kings Celebration, and

 7         WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that official

 8  acknowledgement be given to all those who have helped to make

 9  this community blossom and flourish as we commemorate

10  Miami-Dade County Days, NOW, THEREFORE,

11  

12  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

13  

14         That the Senate recognizes April 17 and 18, 2007, as

15  the "Miami-Dade County Days" and salutes the elected

16  officials, residents, and visitors who have made Miami-Dade

17  County and the State of Florida better places to live.
