  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the City of Oviedo as

  3         a rapidly growing city and a great place to

  4         live and do business in Florida.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Oviedo was originally established around 1875

  7  as the Lake Jesup Community and was populated by the Timucua

  8  clan, and

  9         WHEREAS, the Lake Jesup Community was renamed the City

10  of Oviedo in recognition of Florida's Spanish heritage, and

11         WHEREAS, the City of Oviedo has established an informal

12  sister city relationship with Oviedo, Spain, and

13         WHEREAS, the City of Oviedo was formally incorporated

14  in 1925 when its population reached 800, and

15         WHEREAS, the City of Oviedo now has a population of

16  30,800, and

17         WHEREAS, the City of Oviedo is conveniently located in

18  proximity to the Orlando area, and offers a small-town flavor,

19  a family-oriented environment, and an excellent educational

20  system, NOW, THEREFORE,

22  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

23  

24         That April 25, 2007, is recognized as "City of Oviedo

25  Day."
