1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the month of May as
3 "Early American History Month."

5 WHEREAS, descendants of patriots involved in the
6 American Revolution formed a fraternal and civic society
7 called the Sons of Revolutionary Sires to salute those men and
8 women who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in
9 the struggle for independence from Great Britain, and
10 WHEREAS, out the Sires grew the National Society of the
11 Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), organized on April 30,
12 1899--the 100th anniversary of the Inauguration of George
13 Washington as our nation's first President, and
14 WHEREAS, nearly 165,000 descendants of the men and
15 women patriots of the American Revolution have been admitted
16 to SAR since its founding, and the society currently consists
17 of 26,000 members in more than 500 chapters in the United
18 States, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the United
19 Kingdom, and
20 WHEREAS, in 2006, the SAR established the Tom and Betty
21 Lawrence American History Teacher Award to identify,
22 recognize, and commend outstanding social studies teachers who
23 teach children in a middle or high school setting and who
24 actively address the history of the American Revolutionary
25 Era, and
26 WHEREAS, on February 17, 2007, the Saramana Chapter of
27 the SAR presented this award to Mark Pearcy, Venice High
28 School teacher, as the first recipient by this chapter and
29 state, and

1 WHEREAS, May 2007 commemorates the establishment of the
2 first permanent English settlement in America founded in
3 Jamestown on May 14, 1607, NOW, THEREFORE,

5 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
6
7 That May 2007 is recognized as "Early American History
8 Month" in Florida, and all residents are urged to observe the
9 month of May as such by celebrating the contributions made by
10 the founders and patriots of the first 250 years of our
11 nation.
