1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the month of May as
3 "Early American History Month."

5 WHEREAS, the women descendants of patriots involved in
6 the American Revolution formed an organization called the
7 Daughters of the American Revolution with the objectives of
8 Historic Preservation, Patriotism, and Education, and
9 WHEREAS, out of this grew the National Society of the
10 Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), organized on
11 October 11, 1890 and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of
12 Congress, and
13 WHEREAS, nearly 800,000 descendants of the men and
14 women patriots of the American Revolution have been admitted
15 to the society since its founding, and DAR currently consists
16 of 168,000 members in more than 3,000 chapters in all 50
17 States, Washington, D.C., and eleven International Chapters,
18 and
19 WHEREAS, the National Society recognizes and makes
20 awards to grade school children through American History Essay
21 Contests and the American History Scholarship award to high
22 school seniors and encourages continued study of American
23 History, and
24 WHEREAS, May 2007 commemorates the establishment of the
25 First Permanent English settlement in America founded in
26 Jamestown on May 14, 1607, NOW, THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

30 That May 2007 is recognized as "Early American History
31 Month" in Florida, and all residents are urged to observe the

1 month of May as such by celebrating the contributions made by
2 the founders and patriots of the first 250 years of our
3 nation.
