1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the Florida Orchestra
3 on the occasion of its 40th Anniversary.

5 WHEREAS, the Florida Orchestra has been serving the
6 communities of Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg since its
7 founding on November 3, 1967, as the Florida Gulf Coast
8 Symphony, with the merger of the Saint Petersburg Symphony
9 Orchestra and the Tampa Philharmonic, and
10 WHEREAS, the Florida Orchestra, a state-designated
11 major cultural institution, is one of the premier regional
12 orchestras in the United States and is a major cultural asset
13 to the Tampa Bay community and this state, and
14 WHEREAS, the Florida Orchestra was named "Best
15 Orchestra in the Southeast" by American Record Guide in 1997,
16 and was described as being "on the level of the San Francisco
17 Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas," and
18 WHEREAS, widespread community support has fostered the
19 Florida Orchestra's continued success, and world-class musical
20 leadership and experienced professional management, coupled
21 with conscientious board oversight and strong financial
22 support, have enabled the Florida Orchestra to maintain high
23 artistic achievement in a wide range of performances, and
24 WHEREAS, today, as the Florida Orchestra celebrates its
25 40th Anniversary, the organization and its outstanding
26 musicians are stronger and more accomplished than ever, NOW,
27 THEREFORE,

29 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

1 That the Florida Senate recognizes and celebrates the
2 40th Anniversary of the Florida Orchestra.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
4 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
5 Florida Orchestra as a tangible token of the sentiments of the
6 Florida Senate.
