1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the needs of Haitians
3 fleeing their home country because of
4 political, religious, and other recognized
5 persecution for Temporary Protective Status in
6 this country.

8 WHEREAS, the United States of America is known
9 worldwide as the land of the free and has provided sanctuary
10 and new beginnings for people from around the world, and
11 WHEREAS, today thousands of individuals flee civil
12 unrest and political persecution in their home countries in
13 search of basic freedoms and take enormous risks in their
14 attempt to reach America, seeking a safe haven, and
15 WHEREAS, under the current federal policy, certain
16 refugees who reach United States soil are granted "Credible
17 Fear Interviews" and are often paroled in the Unites States,
18 but Haitian immigrants are incarcerated indefinitely in
19 detention facilities and denied any meaningful opportunity to
20 present their cases in a court of law, and
21 WHEREAS, the current federal policy is unfair,
22 discriminatory, and inhumane and should be revised to provide
23 Temporary Protective Status for persons fleeing Haiti as well
24 as others, NOW, THEREFORE,

26 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

28 That the Senate recognizes the need for a revision in
29 immigration policies concerning Haitian refugees and
30 encourages all state and federal officials to support the
31

1 changes that are needed in the interest of humane and just
2 treatment of Haitian immigrants.
