1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the first day of
3 Hurricane Season, June 1, 2007, as a day of
4 prayer.

6 WHEREAS, throughout our history, our Nation has turned
7 to prayer for strength and guidance in times of challenge and
8 uncertainty, and
9 WHEREAS, past presidents, including Presidents George
10 Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and others, have called for a day
11 of prayer at times of crisis and disaster, and
12 WHEREAS, our first President wrote in 1790, "May the
13 father of all mercies scatter light and not darkness in our
14 paths ..." as we face the challenges of our times, God's
15 purpose continues to guide us, and we continue to trust in the
16 goodness of His plans, and
17 WHEREAS, we have been warned by leading hurricane
18 forecasters of the likelihood of a very active hurricane
19 season, and
20 WHEREAS, our preparations can protect against
21 hurricanes but cannot influence the strength or frequency with
22 which they occur, and
23 WHEREAS, in addition to these preparations, the
24 residents of this state are in need of protection, NOW,
25 THEREFORE,

27 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

29 That in recognition of the first day of Hurricane
30 Season, June 1, 2007, the Senate calls upon the residents of

1 this state to pray that God would have mercy on our state and
2 protect us from harm.
