1A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to educational opportunities for dependent
3children of servicemembers or civilian personnel
4classified as prisoners of war or missing in action;
5amending s. 295.015, F.S.; expanding the provision of
6educational opportunity at state expense for children of
7servicemembers, or civilian personnel captured while
8serving with the consent or authorization of the United
9States Government, classified as prisoners of war or
10missing in action; providing an effective date.

12Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
13
14     Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 295.015, Florida
15Statutes, is amended to read:
16     295.015  Children of prisoners of war and persons missing
17in action; education.--
18     (1)  It is hereby declared to be the policy of the state to
19provide educational opportunity at state expense for dependent
20children either of whose parents has been became classified as a
21prisoner prisoners of war or missing in action in the service of
22the Armed Forces of the United States during the Korean Conflict
23or during the Vietnam Era, as defined in s. 1.01(14), or in the
24capacity of civilian personnel captured while serving with the
25consent or authorization of the United States Government. Such
26educational opportunity shall be provided until such time as the
27parent so classified is returned alive or the parent's remains
28are recovered; provided that, in order to be eligible, the
29parents of such children must have been bona fide residents of
30the state for 5 years next preceding their application for the
31benefits hereof and must be permanent residents of the state on
32the effective date of this act.
33     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
