1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to taxation on property;
3 amending s. 196.031, F.S.; increasing the
4 amount of the homestead exemption; providing a
5 contingent effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Paragraphs (d) and (e) of subsection (3) of
10 section 196.031, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
11 196.031 Exemption of homesteads.--
12 (3)
13 (d) For every person who is entitled to the exemption
14 provided in subsection (1) and who is a permanent resident of
15 this state, the exemption is increased to a total of $50,000
16 $25,000 of assessed valuation for taxes levied by governing
17 bodies of school districts.
18 (e) For every person who is entitled to the exemption
19 provided in subsection (1) and who is a resident of this
20 state, the exemption is increased to a total of $50,000
21 $25,000 of assessed valuation for levies of taxing authorities
22 other than school districts. However, the increase provided in
23 this paragraph shall not apply with respect to the assessment
24 roll of a county unless and until the roll of that county has
25 been approved by the executive director pursuant to s.
26 193.1142.
27 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon the
28 effective date of a joint resolution amending Section 6 of
29 Article VII of the State Constitution which provides for an
30 increase in the homestead exemption.
