A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to the human papillomavirus; requiring the
3Department of Health to adopt a rule adding the human
4papillomavirus to the list of communicable diseases for
5which immunizations are recommended; requiring that
6certain parents or guardians must be provided information
7concerning the human papillomavirus; requiring the
8Department of Health to prescribe the information;
9providing an effective date.

11Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13     Section 1.  (1)  No later than January 1, 2008, the
14Department of Health shall adopt a rule adding the human
15papillomavirus to the list of communicable diseases for which
16immunizations are recommended.
17     (2)  Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, the parent
18or guardian of each public school student entering grade 6 for
19whom the human papillomavirus vaccine is approved by the United
20States Food and Drug Administration must be provided information
21by the school concerning the connection between the human
22papillomavirus and cervical cancer and that a vaccine which
23helps prevent human papillomavirus infection is available and
24recommended to be given to females before they enter grade 8.
25     (3)  The information required to be provided to the parents
26or guardians of the students for whom the human papillomavirus
27vaccine is approved and recommended shall be prescribed by the
28Department of Health.
29     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
