  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the University of

  3         Florida Football Team for winning its second

  4         NCAA Football Championship in school history.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators have long

  7  been recognized for their tradition in all sports, and

  8         WHEREAS, the University of Florida Football Team has

  9  continued this tradition of athletic excellence, achieved and

10  maintained through their hard work, determination, unselfish

11  play, and team-first attitude, and

12         WHEREAS, the Florida Gators, seven times the regular

13  season Southeastern Conference Football Champions, won their

14  last Southeastern Conference Championship in 2006 by defeating

15  the University of Arkansas, and

16         WHEREAS, the Florida Gators won their first NCAA

17  Football Championship on January 2, 1997, and

18         WHEREAS, under coach Urban Meyer and his coaching

19  staff, the Florida Gator football players came together to

20  form a championship team, and

21         WHEREAS, on January 8, 2007, the Florida Gators

22  defeated Ohio State University 41 to 14 in Glendale, Arizona,

23  in a game that showcased the team's combined talent for

24  playing balanced and selfless football, and

25         WHEREAS, celebrating the 100th year of football at the

26  University of Florida, the Florida Gators won their second

27  NCAA Division I Football Championship for the University of

28  Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 1         That the Florida Senate salutes the University of

 2  Florida Football Team for winning the 2006 National Collegiate

 3  Athletic Association Football Championship, the second in the

 4  history of the University of Florida.

 5         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

 6  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the

 7  University of Florida and to each member of the Florida Gators

 8  Football Team as a tangible token of the sentiments of the

 9  Florida Senate.
