  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to naming state university

  3         buildings and other facilities; amending s.

  4         267.062, F.S.; providing for facilities of a

  5         state university to be named for a living

  6         person in accordance with the rules of the

  7         Board of Governors of the State University

  8         System; amending s. 1013.79, F.S.; authorizing

  9         a university board of trustees to name a

10         building in accordance with s. 267.062, F.S.;

11         providing an effective date.

13  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14  

15         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 267.062, Florida

16  Statutes, is amended to read:

17         267.062  Naming of state buildings and other

18  facilities.--

19         (1)  Except as specifically provided by law, no state

20  building, road, bridge, park, recreational complex, or other

21  similar facility shall be named for any living person.

22  However, a building, road, bridge, park, recreational complex,

23  or other similar facility of a state university may be named

24  for a living person in accordance with rules adopted by the

25  Board of Governors of the State University System.

26         Section 2.  Subsection (11) of section 1013.79, Florida

27  Statutes, is amended to read:

28         1013.79  University Facility Enhancement Challenge

29  Grant Program.--

30         (11)  The surveys, architectural plans, facility, and

31  equipment shall be the property of the State of Florida. A

 1  facility constructed pursuant to this section may be named in

 2  honor of a donor at the option of the university board of

 3  trustees and the State Board of Education. The naming of a

 4  facility for a living person shall be in accordance with s.

 5  267.062(1). No facility shall be named after a living person

 6  without prior approval by the Legislature.

 7         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

10                          SENATE SUMMARY

11    Allows facilities of a state university to be named for a
      living person in accordance with the rules of the Board
12    of Governors. Authorizes a university board of trustees
      to name a building in accordance with rules of the Board
13    of Governors of the State University System.
