  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to naming state university

  3         buildings and other facilities; amending s.

  4         267.062, F.S.; providing for the naming of the

  5         facilities of a state university for a living

  6         person by the university in accordance with the

  7         rules of the Board of Governors of the State

  8         University System; amending s. 1013.79, F.S.;

  9         authorizing a university board of trustees to

10         name a building in accordance with s. 267.062,

11         F.S.; providing an effective date.

13  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14  

15         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 267.062, Florida

16  Statutes, is amended to read:

17         267.062  Naming of state buildings and other

18  facilities.--

19         (1)  Except as specifically provided by law, no state

20  building, road, bridge, park, recreational complex, or other

21  similar facility shall be named for any living person.

22  However, a building, road, bridge, park, recreational complex,

23  or other similar facility of a state university may be named

24  for a living person by the university's board of trustees in

25  accordance with rules adopted by the Board of Governors of the

26  State University System.

27         Section 2.  Subsection (11) of section 1013.79, Florida

28  Statutes, is amended to read:

 1         (11)  The surveys, architectural plans, facility, and

 2  equipment shall be the property of the State of Florida. A

 3  facility constructed pursuant to this section may be named in

 4  honor of a donor at the option of the university board of

 5  trustees and the State Board of Education. The naming of a

 6  facility for a living person shall be in accordance with s.

 7  267.062(1). No facility shall be named after a living person

 8  without prior approval by the Legislature.

 9         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
