11 | 1001.42, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
12 | 1001.42 Powers and duties of district school board.--The |
13 | district school board, acting as a board, shall exercise all |
14 | powers and perform all duties listed below: |
15 | (4) ESTABLISHMENT, ORGANIZATION, AND OPERATION OF |
16 | SCHOOLS.--Adopt and provide for the execution of plans for the |
17 | establishment, organization, and operation of the schools of the |
18 | district, including, but not limited to, the following: |
19 | (f) Opening and closing of schools; fixing uniform |
20 | date.--Adopt policies for the opening and closing of schools and |
21 | fix uniform dates.; however, Beginning with the 2007-2008 school |
22 | year, the opening date of the school year for schools in the |
23 | district may not be earlier than 14 days before Labor Day each |
24 | year. However, beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, a |
25 | district school board may with a super majority vote after |
26 | holding at least two public meetings that begin no earlier than |
27 | 6 p.m. establish an earlier opening date for students that is no |
28 | earlier than the first week in August or a different opening |
29 | date for a school that operates on a year-round or extended |
30 | calendar. |
