1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the human papillomavirus;
3 requiring that certain parents or guardians of
4 public and private school students be provided
5 information concerning the human
6 papillomavirus; requiring the Department of
7 Health to prescribe the information; providing
8 an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. (1) Beginning with the 2008-2009 school
13 year, the parent or guardian of each public and private school
14 student entering grade 6 for whom the human papillomavirus
15 vaccine is approved by the United States Food and Drug
16 Administration must be provided information by the school
17 concerning the connection between the human papillomavirus and
18 cervical cancer and that a vaccine that helps prevent human
19 papillomavirus infection is available and recommended to be
20 given to females before they enter grade 6.
21 (2) The information required to be provided to the
22 parents or guardians of the students for whom the human
23 papillomavirus vaccine is approved and recommended shall be
24 prescribed by the Department of Health.
25 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

4 The Committee Substitute does not require the human papilloma
virus vaccine as a condition for school entry but instead
5 requires public and private schools to provide information to
parents of certain students concerning the virus, cervical
6 cancer, and the vaccine.
