  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to community colleges; amending

  3         s. 1009.23, F.S.; authorizing each community

  4         college to assess a transportation access fee;

  5         requiring approval of the service charge by the

  6         board of trustees of the community college;

  7         providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (17) is added to section

12  1009.23, Florida Statutes, to read:

13         1009.23  Community college student fees.--

14         (17)  Each community college may assess a

15  transportation access fee for the purpose of improving access

16  to the community college for current and prospective students.

17  The service charge must be approved by the board of trustees

18  of the community college.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

21          STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
                       COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
22                         Senate Bill 684

24  The committee substitute authorizes a community college to
    establish a transportation access fee to all students, rather
25  than a user fee, for transportation services.
