  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to private schools; amending s.

  3         1002.42, F.S.; providing that earning passing

  4         scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment

  5         Test (FCAT) or, in specified circumstances, on

  6         an equivalent standardized test is a

  7         prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma

  8         from a private school in this state; providing

  9         an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Present subsections (7), (8), (9), (10),

14  (11), (12), (13), (14), and (15) of section 1002.42, Florida

15  Statutes, are redesignated as subsections (8), (9), (10),

16  (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), and (16), respectively, and a

17  new subsection (7) is added to that section, to read:

18         1002.42  Private schools.--

19         (7)  TEST REQUIREMENTS.--Notwithstanding paragraph

20  (2)(h), in order to receive a high school diploma from a

21  private school in this state, a student must earn passing

22  scores on the FCAT, as defined in s. 1008.22(3)(c), or scores

23  on a standardized test which are concordant with passing

24  scores on the FCAT as defined in s. 1008.22(9).

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

28                          SENATE SUMMARY

29    Provides that earning passing scores on the Florida
      Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) or, in specified
30    circumstances, on an equivalent standardized test is a
      prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma from a
31    private school in this state.
