1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to veterans' employment
3 preference; repealing s. 295.101, F.S.,
4 relating to the expiration of a veteran's
5 preference in public employment after one
6 application; amending s. 110.2135, F.S.;
7 deleting a reference to the repealed statute;
8 providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Section 295.101, Florida Statutes, is
13 repealed.
14 Section 2. Section 110.2135, Florida Statutes, is
15 amended to read:
16 110.2135 Preference in employment, reemployment,
17 promotion, and retention.--
18 (1) Preference in employment, reemployment, promotion,
19 and retention shall be given to an eligible veteran pursuant
20 to ss. 295.07, 295.08, 295.085, and 295.09, and 295.101 as
21 long as the veteran meets the minimum eligibility requirements
22 and has the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the
23 particular position.
24 (2) A disabled veteran employed as the result of being
25 placed at the top of the appropriate employment list under the
26 provisions of s. 295.08 or s. 295.085 shall be appointed for a
27 probationary period of 1 year. At the end of such period, if
28 the work of the veteran has been satisfactorily performed, the
29 veteran will acquire permanent employment status and will be
30 subject to the employment rules of the Department of
31 Management Services and the veteran's employing agency.

1 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
