  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to child abductions; creating

  3         s. 985.6011, F.S.; requiring the Department of

  4         Juvenile Justice to establish an immigration

  5         status screening program; providing an

  6         effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Section 985.6011, Florida Statutes, is

11  created to read:

12         985.6011  Lachele Nance Child Abduction Act.--

13         (1)  This section may be cited as the "Lachele Nance

14  Child Abduction Act."

15         (2)  The Department of Juvenile Justice shall establish

16  an immigration status screening program that requires the

17  department to conduct immigration status checks on each

18  juvenile entering secured detention within the limits of

19  specific appropriations made available for such purpose.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

21  law.

23          STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
                       COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
24                         Senate Bill 732

26  -    Creates a new section of law requiring the Department of
         Juvenile Justice to establish an immigration status
27       screening program within the limits of specific
         appropriations for this purpose.

    -    Names this newly created section of law, rather than an
29       appropriation in the General Appropriations Act, as the
         "Lachele Nance Child Abduction Act."
