1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the 20th Anniversary
3 of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in
4 Tampa, Florida.

6 WHEREAS, in 1987 the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center
7 (TBPAC) opened its doors to provide touring Broadway
8 performances, grand opera, comedy, concerts, cabaret, drama,
9 and dance to patrons throughout the extended Tampa Bay area,
10 and
11 WHEREAS, over the last 20 years TBPAC has entertained
12 almost 10 million residents and visitors and has become the
13 largest performing arts center in the southeastern U.S. and
14 the largest south of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.,
15 and
16 WHEREAS, TBPAC expanded its educational efforts in 2004
17 when it opened the Dr. Pallavi Patel Performing Arts
18 Conservatory, teaching music, theater, dance, and digital arts
19 to all ages and interest groups, and
20 WHEREAS, more than 860,000 children have attended
21 performances at TBPAC, many of them visiting a theater for the
22 first time, through the On-School-Time program, and
23 WHEREAS, approximately 80 percent of TBPAC's budget
24 comes from ticket sales, rentals, and other income, with the
25 remaining funds coming from governments, corporations,
26 foundations, and 5,700 individual donors, and
27 WHEREAS, TBPAC has a $94-million annual economic impact
28 on the State of Florida, according to the formula used by the
29 U.S. Council of Mayors and the Americans for the Arts, with
30 its bottom line boosted by some 650 volunteers donating more
31 than 75,000 hours of support annually, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That the Florida Senate proudly recognizes and
4 celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Tampa Bay Performing
5 Arts Center and urges the residents of the State of Florida to
6 support the performing arts throughout the state and
7 particularly at the TBPAC and at the Patel Performing Arts
8 Conservatory in Tampa, Florida.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
10 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Tampa
11 Bay Performing Arts Center as a tangible token of the
12 sentiments of the Florida Senate.
