1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing the accomplishments and
3	contributions of Florida Atlantic University.

5	WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University was created by the
6	Florida Legislature in 1961 as the state's fifth public
7	university, and
8	WHEREAS, since opening its doors to undergraduate and
9	graduate students, Florida Atlantic University has consistently
10	distinguished itself as a center of outstanding teaching,
11	research, and public service, and
12	WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is currently serving
13	more than 26,000 students on seven campuses strategically
14	located along 150 miles of Florida's southeastern coastline, and
15	WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is developing rapidly
16	as a center of medical education and biomedical research through
17	partnerships with the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at
18	the University of Miami, Boca Raton Community Hospital, The
19	Scripps Research Institute, Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular
20	Studies, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research
21	Institute, and other outstanding scientific organizations, and
22	WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is a major force of
23	economic growth in southeast Florida, generating more than $1.15
24	billion annually in economic activity, NOW, THEREFORE,

26	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27	Florida:

29	That the House of Representatives congratulates and
30	commends Florida Atlantic University for the many important
31	contributions it has made and continues to make to higher
32	education in the State of Florida.
33	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
34	presented to Frank T. Brogan, president of Florida Atlantic
35	University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
36	herein.
