House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the accomplishments and
3contributions of Florida Atlantic University.
4
5     WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University was created by the
6Florida Legislature in 1961 as the state's fifth public
7university, and
8     WHEREAS, since opening its doors to undergraduate and
9graduate students, Florida Atlantic University has consistently
10distinguished itself as a center of outstanding teaching,
11research, and public service, and
12     WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is currently serving
13more than 26,000 students on seven campuses strategically
14located along 150 miles of Florida's southeastern coastline, and
15     WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is developing rapidly
16as a center of medical education and biomedical research through
17partnerships with the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at
18the University of Miami, Boca Raton Community Hospital, The
19Scripps Research Institute, Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular
20Studies, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research
21Institute, and other outstanding scientific organizations, and
22     WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University is a major force of
23economic growth in southeast Florida, generating more than $1.15
24billion annually in economic activity, NOW, THEREFORE,

26Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27Florida:

29     That the House of Representatives congratulates and
30commends Florida Atlantic University for the many important
31contributions it has made and continues to make to higher
32education in the State of Florida.
33     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
34presented to Frank T. Brogan, president of Florida Atlantic
35University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
36herein.
