House Resolution
2A resolution designating March 21, 2007, as "FAMU Day" in
3Tallahassee.

5     WHEREAS, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University was
6founded in 1887, named a land-grant institution in 1891, and
7designated a university in 1953, and
8     WHEREAS, FAMU, a four-year, historically black university
9offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, seeks
10qualified students from all racial, ethnic, religious, and
11national groups and has provided immeasurable educational
12opportunities for young men and women, and
13     WHEREAS, academic components of the university consist of
1413 colleges and schools and two institutes: Arts and Sciences;
15Education; Engineering Sciences, Technology, and Agriculture;
16Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Engineering; Allied Health
17Sciences; Architecture; Business and Industry; General Studies;
18Journalism and Graphic Communication; Nursing; Law; Graduate
19Studies and Research; the Environmental Sciences Institute; and
20the Institute of Public Health, and
21     WHEREAS, FAMU is the top producer of African Americans with
22baccalaureate degrees and degrees in business management,
23marketing, and related services, and is the top producer of
24African-American pharmacists in the nation, and
25     WHEREAS, FAMU won its sixth consecutive Mid-Eastern
26Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship in November 2006,
27and
28WHEREAS, FAMU was named the number one college for African
29Americans by Black Enterprise in 2006, and the "Marching 100"
30performed at Super Bowl XLI on February 4, 2007, NOW, THEREFORE,

32Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
33Florida:

35     That the House of Representatives, in recognition of
36Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University's contributions
37as an outstanding institution of higher education, proudly
38designates March 21, 2007, as "FAMU Day" in Tallahassee.
39     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
40presented to Dr. Castell Vaughn Bryant, interim president of
41Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, as a tangible
42token of the sentiments expressed herein.
