House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of Florida
3State University's International Programs.

5     WHEREAS, as of the 2006-2007 academic year, Florida State
6University's International Programs has been in existence for 50
7years, and
8     WHEREAS, Florida State University's International Programs
9includes the institutional study centers in Panama City, the
10Republic of Panama, established in 1957; Florence, Italy,
11founded in 1966; London, England, established in 1971; and
12Valencia, Spain, established as a year-round study center in
131996, and
14     WHEREAS, there are also 15 international summer programs
15offered by Florida State University located in various countries
16around the world, including Ireland, Australia, Japan, the Czech
17Republic, Costa Rica, Holland, China, Brazil, Russia,
18Switzerland, France, Ecuador, and Croatia, and
19     WHEREAS, these study centers and programs are highly
20acclaimed, offering exceptional academic opportunities, career
21preparation, and continued scholarly pursuits while providing
22students with a lifelong, expanded perspective of world
23cultures, regional and national governance, geographical
24boundaries, natural resources, economic conditions, historical
25frameworks, languages, and populations, and
26     WHEREAS, more than 20,000 students have participated in
27International Programs at study centers and through various
28summer programs offered by Florida State University, and
29     WHEREAS, the Florida State University Alumni Association
30resolutely and unanimously endorses the concept of international
31education programs and the essential and institutional
32commitments, resources, and vision required to offer and support
33programs of the caliber, effectiveness, and attractiveness that
34have prevailed for a half century through Florida State
35University's International Programs, NOW, THEREFORE,

37Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38Florida:

40     That Florida State University's International Programs and
41the administration, faculty, staff, students, and countries who
42are tireless advocates of and exceptional participants in its
43advancement are hereby congratulated and recognized for 50 years
44of remarkable contributions to the furtherance of higher
45education.
