1	House Resolution
2	A resolution designating March 22, 2007, as "F.S.U. Day"
3	in Florida.

5	WHEREAS, the Tallahassee campus of Florida State University
6	is the oldest continuous site of higher education in this state
7	and holds the state's first chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and
8	WHEREAS, in 1994, Florida State University joined an elite
9	group of the nation's top research universities when the
10	Carnegie Foundation designated it a "Research I" institution,
11	and
12	WHEREAS, today, Florida State University offers graduate
13	and undergraduate degrees in 304 programs within 17 independent
14	colleges and schools, with a faculty that has included 12
15	National Academy of Sciences members and 6 Nobel Laureates and
16	that currently comprises 2,291 members, and
17	WHEREAS, Florida State University houses the National High
18	Magnetic Field Laboratory, the largest and highest powered
19	magnet laboratory in the world, which conducts research into the
20	frontiers of science and engineering technologies for a new
21	century, and
22	WHEREAS, Florida State University is home to the winningest
23	coach in major college football, Bobby Bowden; head baseball
24	coach Mike Martin; and Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, all
25	of whom were recently honored with induction into national
26	sports halls of fame, and
27	WHEREAS, Florida State University has an expanding presence
28	statewide with the opening of regional College of Medicine
29	campuses in Daytona Beach and Fort Pierce, which are in addition
30	to its other satellite campuses in Sarasota, home to the
31	university's Ringling Center for the Cultural Arts, and in
32	Panama City, and
33	WHEREAS, the college experience continues to enrich the
34	lives of Florida State University students due to the
35	university's longstanding tradition of promoting racial, ethnic,
36	and cultural diversity on its campuses along with the aggressive
37	recruitment of diverse groups of students, NOW, THEREFORE,

39	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40	Florida:

42	That the House of Representatives designates March 22,
43	2007, as "F.S.U. Day" in Florida in recognition of Florida State
44	University's contributions as an outstanding institution of
45	higher education.
46	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
47	presented to Dr. T.K. Wetherell, President of Florida State
48	University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
49	herein.
