2	A resolution honoring Florida State University Head
3	Football Coach Bobby Bowden.

5	WHEREAS, after successfully coaching at his alma mater,
6	Samford University, and at the University of West Virginia, in
7	1976 Bobby Bowden took over the Florida State University
8	football program and during the 31 intervening years developed
9	it into the most consistently successful program in the history
10	of major college football, and
11	WHEREAS, Coach Bowden has led the Seminoles to a 10-win
12	season 18 times in 31 years, to 28 bowl games, including 25
13	consecutive bowl games, to 6 Bowl Championship Series bowl games
14	in the 9-year existence of this national championship
15	competition, and to consensus National Championships in 1993 and
16	1999, and
17	WHEREAS, during Florida State's 15-year membership in the
18	Atlantic Coast Conference, Coach Bowden has led his team to 12
19	championships and has twice been named the conference Coach of
20	the Year, and
21	WHEREAS, on October 25, 2003, Bobby Bowden added yet
22	another superlative to his long list of outstanding
23	accomplishments when he became the all-time winningest coach in
24	major college football history, currently totaling 366 career
25	coaching victories, and
26	WHEREAS, on December 5, 2006, Bobby Bowden was inducted
27	into the College Football Hall of Fame and received the
28	organization's highest distinction as a Gold Medal Recipient,
29	joining President Dwight D. Eisenhower, President John F.
30	Kennedy, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, and Jackie Robinson as a
31	Gold Medal Recipient, and
32	WHEREAS, although admired for a football program that is a
33	model for the entire country, Bobby Bowden is not obsessed with
34	his successes on the field, preferring instead to focus on the
35	more important aspects of his life -- his Christian faith, his
36	family and friends, and the young men who comprise his team,
37	NOW, THEREFORE,

39	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40	Florida:

42	That the House of Representatives proudly salutes Florida
43	State University Head Football Coach Bobby Bowden and extends to
44	him its gratitude and congratulations for his many
45	accomplishments as head football coach and for his numerous
46	contributions to the community of Tallahassee and the State of
47	Florida.
48	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
49	presented to Bobby Bowden, Head Coach of the Florida State
50	University football program, as a tangible token of the
51	sentiments expressed herein.
