5 | WHEREAS, the Professional Golfers' Association of America |
6 | (PGA) was founded in New York City on April 10, 1916, with 35 |
7 | charter members and, today, is the world's largest working |
8 | sports organization, consisting of more than 28,000 men and |
9 | women golf professionals who are dedicated to the growth of the |
10 | game of golf, and |
11 | WHEREAS, the 1,300 golf courses in Florida host more than |
12 | 26,000 tournament events annually, attracting 2.11 million |
13 | spectators, and |
14 | WHEREAS, the golf industry in Florida is a major |
15 | contributor to the economy and to the well-being of the state, |
16 | providing employment for an estimated 72,000 people, raising |
17 | property values, helping to protect and enhance the environment, |
18 | and generating $120 million in tax revenues annually, and |
19 | WHEREAS, the PGA in Florida makes enormous contributions to |
20 | a wide range of community and charitable organizations, conducts |
21 | junior golf camps for tens of thousands of youngsters, holds the |
22 | Special Olympics National Golf Tournament and the National |
23 | Minority College Golf Championship, and conducts community |
24 | outreach programs that encourage the participation of anyone who |
25 | enjoys the game of golf, NOW, THEREFORE, |

27 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
28 | Florida: |

30 | That March 27, 2007, is recognized as "Professional |
31 | Golfers' Association of America Day" in Florida, and the PGA is |
32 | commended for its promotion of the game of golf and the |
33 | resultant positive impact within the state. |
34 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that residents of and visitors to |
35 | the state are urged to take an afternoon to enjoy a round of |
36 | golf. |
