House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing and commending the Tampa Bay
3Performing Arts Center on the occasion of its 20th
4anniversary.

6     WHEREAS, since its opening in 1987, the Tampa Bay
7Performing Arts Center has provided a beautiful venue for a
8variety of world-class events for patrons of the performing
9arts, including one of the nation's leading Broadway series, the
10production of grand operas, and numerous concerts and other
11performances, and
12     WHEREAS, during the last 20 years, the Tampa Bay Performing
13Arts Center has entertained nearly 10 million patrons and has
14become the largest performing arts center in the Southeast and
15the largest south of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and
16     WHEREAS, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center expanded its
17educational efforts in 2004 by opening the Dr. Pallavi Patel
18Performing Arts Conservatory for the purpose of offering
19instruction in music, theater, dance, and the digital arts to
20students of all ages, and
21     WHEREAS, over the past 20 years more than 860,000 children
22have attended performances at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts
23Center through its On-School Time program, many of them
24experiencing a theatrical performance for the first time, and
25     WHEREAS, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center has an annual
26economic impact on the State of Florida of $94 million, with
27approximately 80 percent of the funding for the center being
28provided by ticket sales, rentals, and other income and the
29remaining funds coming from government, corporations,
30foundations, and 5,700 individual donors, and
31     WHEREAS, the community support for the Tampa Bay Performing
32Arts Center and the Dr. Pallavi Patel Performing Arts
33Conservatory is strong and committed, as evidenced by the
34support of approximately 650 volunteers donating over 75,000
35hours annually, NOW, THEREFORE,

37Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38Florida:

40     That the House of Representatives recognizes and commends
41the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center on the occasion of its 20th
42anniversary and encourages the residents of the State of Florida
43to support the performing arts not only at the center but
44throughout the state.
45     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
46presented to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center as a tangible
47token of the sentiments expressed herein.
