| 5 | WHEREAS, tens of thousands of Americans rely on plasma |
| 6 | protein therapies and recombinant analogs to treat rare, life- |
| 7 | threatening genetic and autoimmune disorders, and |
| 8 | WHEREAS, hundreds of Floridians have been diagnosed with |
| 9 | such rare genetic and autoimmune disorders, which include |
| 10 | hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, primary |
| 11 | immunodeficiency diseases, and alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency, |
| 12 | and |
| 13 | WHEREAS, treatment options for patients having these |
| 14 | disorders should include a full range of plasma protein |
| 15 | therapies provided by health care providers experienced in the |
| 16 | treatment of these rare disorders, and through pharmaceutical |
| 17 | and home-supported services, to help ensure the best possible |
| 18 | clinical outcomes, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, multidisciplinary care provided to patients having |
| 20 | these life-threatening genetic and autoimmune disorders has |
| 21 | resulted in significant improvements in patient outcomes and has |
| 22 | enhanced the quality of life for this patient population, NOW, |
| 23 | THEREFORE, |

| 25 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 26 | Florida: |
| 27 |
|
| 28 | That April 2007 is designated as "Plasma Protein Therapies |
| 29 | Month" in Florida to raise awareness of the success of such |
| 30 | therapies in the treatment of rare, life-threatening genetic and |
| 31 | autoimmune disorders and to encourage greater access to such |
| 32 | therapies for patients in this state. |
